Biography

Darren Brade is a London-based filmmaker and photographer, originally from Leicester. He began his career in photography before moving into filmmaking as a way to explore more complex emotional and social themes, particularly around identity, trauma, and human connection.

In 2018, he co-founded Peripheral Vision Films with Wesley Mahoney, focusing on short, character-driven stories. His work includes Your Heart is Homeless, Arrival of Oliver, To Walk Amongst You, Do What Thou Wilt, and most recently, Breaking Through the Fear. These projects often engage with LGBTQ+ experiences and mental health, with an emphasis on the personal impact of wider social pressures.

Your Heart is Homeless reached a wide online audience and has previously been available on platforms including Amazon Prime, QueerBee, and Dekkoo. Breaking Through the Fear, co-created with Wesley Mahoney, continues this approach, responding to the rise in hate crimes against LGBTQIA+ people in the UK and exploring how trauma can shape relationships and processes of healing.

He is currently developing a feature-length project that builds on these themes, aiming to create work that feels honest, intimate, and grounded in lived experience.
